Russia Design Research: High-Life Seekers Lifestyle and Taste of Culture

Aim:

Recommend emotional themes & design motives to help Samsung develop products appealing to the target audience in Moscow & St. Petersburg: Young trendsetters and Westernised for Mobile entertainment devices (Cellular phones | Digital camera) & Home appliances (Refrigerator | Washing machine).

Realisation:

Design research consisted of desk research with a focus on Russian arts & culture heritage, lyfestyle and emotional trends analysis with Russian culture keywords, and field research including conducting nine focus group discussions, shadowing/observations, home visits and experts interviewing. Samsung brand audit and marketing analysis for four categories along with sample collections were also part of the project.

The results of research were recommendations for strategy and input into new products offerings for the Russian consumer electronics and home appliencies market, visual storytelling for identified design directions including patterns and textures, CMF, design concepts. The final presentation was successfully presented in Design center of Samsung in Seoul.

The project for Samsung Electronics has become the first design research project done for a global brand and aimed at the Russian market. See other design research projects conducted by the Russian design consultancy Lumiknows for Danish Danfoss and French Renault.
